The 3rd Edition of long-time Section member R. J. Secor's "The High Sierra: Peaks Passes and Trails", published by the Mountaineers of Seattle, WA, is an invaluable guide for hiking and climbing in the Sierra Nevada. It covers the range from the Whitney region in the south to the northern region of Yosemite National Park. The book is available through Amazon.com and other vendors.


Legislation protects California Wilderness areas. Please click on the link to view the latest series of maps (August 2008) showing the new wilderness additions. 700,000 additional acres in designated wilderness
areas to be protected from new roads and most commercial uses in California.
Congressional action completed and legislation signed by the President.
