Emblems & Recognition of Accomplishments

  • The Geographical Emblem can be obtained by climbing two (2) peaks from each of the twenty four (24) geographical areas identified in the Peaks List and be a SPS member.
  • The SPS Emblem can be obtained by climbing 25 peaks on the list, including 10 emblem peaks, and be a SPS member in good standing.
  • The Senior Emblem can be obtained by being an Emblem holder for one year, climb 100 peaks on the Peaks List, including all of the emblem peaks, 15 or more of the mountaineers peaks and 2 or more peaks from each of the 24 geographical areas.
  • The Master Emblem can be obtained by being a Senior Emblem holder and climbing 175 peaks on the Peaks List, including all the emblem peaks, 25 of the mountaineers peaks and 4 or more peaks from each of the 24 geographical areas.
  • The First List Completion can be obtained by being a SPS member for two years and climbing all of the peaks on the current Peaks List.
  • The Second List Completion can be obtained by climbing all of the peaks on the current Peaks List two times.
  • The Third and Subsequent List Completions can be obtained by climbing all of the peaks on the current Peaks List three or more times.
  • The Andy Smatko Explorer Emblem can be obtained by climbing 50 peaks not on the Sierra Peaks List and be a SPS member.  The peaks must be located in the Sierra Nevada and north of Hwy 178 and south of Hwy 36, and named on either on USGS 7.5 minute or 15 minute maps, or in the GNIS database, or listed as a named peak in R. J. Secor's book "The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, and Trails", and be 7000' elevation or more.  HPS peaks are not allowed (to avoid overlap). Members may request a peak to be accepted that does not strictly fall within these requirements (for example, peaks designated only by spot elevation) if they can provide sufficient information to the Emblem Committee to show that the peak is worthy of inclusion.

Note: The order of names generally reflects the order of application while the date whenever possible is the date of the ascent of the qualifying peak, or when the list was presented.
